״The First Chapter״ – My Debut Novel
Many years passed between the end of my own "first chapter" and the moment I was able to shape my thoughts into words. Three additional years went by from the time the first letter of this manuscript was written. The writing originated from a deep urge — I wanted to leave something behind as my legacy - and when I finished, even though every word came from within me, I understood things that I hadn't grasped before.
What is the book about?
Yoav is newly divorced. When his ex-wife travels with their children and extended family to South America for Passover, he decides that if he’s going to be alone, it might as well be in Nepal. He sets out to the other side of the world to fulfill an old dream, carrying in his backpack a burden of fear, guilt, and shattered dreams. But he soon discovers that even though living as a couple can be hard, solitude is not an option—especially when he finds himself with unexpected companions for the journey. Meeting them forces Yoav to confront guilt and memories, different perceptions of relationships, and even the possibility of finding, despite everything, a new hope.
From the colorful bustle of Kathmandu, through the wild landscapes of the Annapurna, to the quiet of Pokhara, Yoav searches for answers to questions that trouble many men approaching forty, who realize that something is missing—just when it seems that everything has finally fallen into place.
"The First Chapter" is a novel about love, partnership, fatherhood, and friendship. A story about what breaks, what remains, and the possibility of starting over.
